Update
Hi everyone, hope you all had a good weekend.
Just a quick update on my beautiful lab and his recent hip replacement operation. Well after dislocating it 3 times and 3 operations later I think we are there, the vet has now done a FHO on him. My boy had always laid like a frog back legs splayed out the vet said he wouldn't do this after the op but sadly for my boy he did, its his natural position and he won't change now so he was dislocating the new joint himself. Since having the FHO last Wednesday he's doing fantastic, walking well the nurses say he's calm and relaxed and eating. We are hoping today is the day he comes home.....for good. Thank you to those of you who gave advice. One bit of advice to any lab lover who's dog may have to face this op, although 90% of ops work well there are pitfalls that sometimes are unforeseen such as my boy, do research and talk things in depth with your veterinary surgeon, if your dog splays his rear legs out like a frog and has done for a long time there's every chance he/she will continue, even our surgeon said he may have to re-write the medical text on this one! I will let you know how he progresses over the coming weeks / months. Have a great week everyone x |

RE: Update
Hi everyone, little update for you. Got our boy home Monday and doing good, a little wobbly here and there but only to be expected. He has 10 minute walks 4 times a day trouble is he feels good and wants to go further but we are having to be cruel to be kind and very strict. He tires easy although he wants to do more that 10 mins is enough for him at the moment. He's on Metacam pain relief, finished his antibiotics yesterday and will have the stitches out next Tuesday. I am so proud of my boy considering what he's been through this past month he seems very content and happy, one very tough cookie bless him! In 3 weeks he will have hydro sessions once a week for a month and also further physio over the coming weeks/months. Its been a very stressful month for all but light at the end of the tunnel is coming through. Ok I will be back later with a further update. Thank you to those who replied
