Should dog licences be re-introduced?
Should the dog licence be r-introduced where people have to apply to the local police/council before the can own a dog?

Not sure why it was ever scrapped, but with current trends moving away from knives and instead violent dogs, I dont think it would be a bad idea if set up properly.

RE: Should dog licences be re-introduced?
I've never had to have a dog licence, I've added an option to the poll of don't know.
The only advantage of it i can see, is it could potentially reduce the amount of the back yard breeders.

I think if they bring in licences it would be a very good idea, stop the you ( chavvy's ) from buying a dog to look hard and giving them bad names

RE: Should dog licences be re-introduced?
They only ever seem to buy staffys.
Just another thought it would probably also mean shelters/rescues would also have to keep dogs longer as potential adopters would need to gain a licence first, on the flipside it would possibly reduce the amount of dogs in rescue as there would be less people buying just because they can.

RE: Should dog licences be re-introduced?
Exactly.
I really dont know why the scheme was previously removed, but in todays world with the technology we have and micro chipping, I cant see why it wouldnt work.

I'm still not hundred percent sure it would work as i can see both pluses and minuses to it.

RE: Should dog licences be re-introduced?
I am not sure what this thread means but I have a licence for owning Ciárna and applied for one when she was only 8 weeks old. Just recently I had to renew my licence. Is this the licence you are referring too?

I'm not sure on the rules in ireland as i'm not irish and have never lived there. I'm english through and through. Did you need to apply to your local council to get the license?
